However unlike the original game, the three main charatcers are available from the start while Funky Kong is only a playable character in easy mode. Their objective in every level is to obtain Golden Bananas among other collectibles.

Ocean really screwed up especially in the sound department - also, the 'feeling' just isn't there in the Ocean version, and it seems too hectic and distorted. As in Donkey Kong 64, the game is a 3D collectathon where the player controls one of the four available Kongs in open and vast levels similar to those found in Super Mario 64. This is the best C64 version of this game (and for me, the best version of this game) - such atmosphere, great graphics (especially compared to the ugly and squeezed-looking ocean version), wonderful sounds (except a bit annoying walking sound) - the original is usually always the best, and that is the case here too. An emulator mimics (emulates) the functionality of real hardware, so games written for the hardware will (usually) work in the emulator. Also, there are no separate "emulator versions" of games, like some people seem to think - the same exact versions work on both real C64 and the emulators. So it always shows the mode that you can get to (by pressing F3), not the mode you are in. It says: "Press F3 for two players" - which means, it is NOW in one-player mode, and it will change -into- two-player mode IF you press F3. This correction comes about 8 years too late, I reckon'. I can't fathom how anyone can claim the Ocean version is even any good, let alone better than this 1983 masterpiece! It's completely inferior to this - come on, people, be fair and try them both side by side and see (and hear) the difference! (And throw away your Atari-bias, which is probably the reason for so many people to choose an inferior version of the game just so they can keep their worldview intact - just because it says "Atari" on something, doesn't mean it automatically stinks!) The Ocean version just looks like something has been removed in order to be able to pack it into the tight, little space the game runs in. Of course this might be because this was the first version of the game I saw. The graphics do not look 'oddly stretched', like someone said, but just perfect.

This version is harmonious, relaxing, yet intense with perfect gameplay and fullscreen display.
